Indosat Ooredoo and PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara through a Joint Venture Company Signed Agreement to Build & Launch Satelit Palapa-N1 with China Great Wall Industry Corporation

Jakarta, 17 May 2017 – PT Indosat, Tbk (Indosat Ooredoo) dan PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), through their joint venture (JV) company, PT Palapa Satelit Nusa Sejahtera (PSNS), signed an agreement with China satellite manufacturer, China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) for the procurement of new satellite Satelit Palapa-N1. The signing was witneshed by the Minister of The Communication and Information Rudiantara in the mids of Asia Pacific Satellite Communications Systems International Conference (APSAT) 2017 in Jakarta, today.


CGWIC will build and launch into orbit of the satllite in this agreement. The satellite will be developed by using Chinese DFH 4 Bus and will be delivered into orbit by using Long March 3B from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China. This new satellite is named as Palapa Nusantara 1 or Palapa-N1, and is positioned as the next generation of current satellite Palapa-D at orbital slot 113°E. Palapa-N1 satellite will optimise the available spectrum and provide services for broadcasting and broadband connectivity in the entire coverage in Indonesia by adopting newest technology of High Throughput Satellite (HTS).

This new satellite will continuously supports business solutions (B2B) and mobile network Indosat Ooredoo. With the significant growth of digital landscape in the market and the need of broadband connectivity for the people in Indonesia, satellite plays very important role to reach those people in remote areas to access internet broadband services and affordable high quality broadcasting. Hence, its existence is expected to lower the digital divide in the country.
